Creating a GitHub repo based on your software, what license?

Greetings!

Due to massive popular requests,, I have decided to create a GitHub repo for the work I’m doing with the GoPiGo.

Since, at least at the beginning, my works will be substantially derived from existing Dexter Industries/Modular Robotics code, I am curious as to what license I should/must use.

On the one hand, I would like to choose a license that requires people to “pass along the goodness” like the GPL-3 license, which prohibits making the software proprietary.

On the other hand, the base license for the code is MIT, which is just a jump, hop, and skip away from unlimited Public Domain licensing.

Do you folks suggest and/or require derivative works to have a particular license?
