I think the next firmware released should have a command which returns the firmware version of the device.
All newer firmware published on Github should increment the version using semantic versioning.

Are you using Github as your issue tracker?
Yes, we are keeping a track of the issues there. Most of them are not high priority right now and there are not too many firmware issues so we are not actively working on them, they are rather for the general community to look into.
Once we have enough issues that a firmware update is required, we’ll do it and make all the changes and updates at once.
