Furby eyes and multi-KV near sensitive, low voltage electronics? 
You don’t have the development budget for things like that, and neither do I.
I’m glad I have something like Charlie and Charline.
Personally, I think Carl and Dave peg the awsomeness meter, far and away from anything I could do.
P.S.
There’s always someone with a prettier girlfriend/wife, faster car, or cooler robot. It’s not worth getting stressed over.

Ah, but it is not a conscious decision. I have been dabbling with chatbots for over 20 years. I find a new open-source reasoning engine and launch into making a “dialog-reasoning agent with memory and learning abilities”. The last time, I discovered the wife of the chatbot engine developer was a cognitive and behavioral therapy psychologist helping his chatbots to understand the dialog and drive the responses to elicit emotional effect on the human. His chatbot Suzette won the Loebner prize in 2010, and subsequent bots placed high.

Let me know when you get the budget and time for something like this.
Especially since it’s a big hardware project as opposed to pure software.
