Motor PID control

I’m interested in know if it is planned to develop a PID motor speed/power control.
In any case, Is it possible to read the motor’s tachometer in order to develop by hand (in C, python, or whatever) other control scheme different of current time control implemented in the libraries?
This feature is very important to control motor position for complex robot designs.

Which platform are you referring to?

I had the same question (about the BrickPi), and concluded I could do it in Python, if I wrote a framework to make it possible.
