Power GoPiGo from a 2 amp power supply

In watching this tutorial:

https://pythonprogramming.net/robot-programming-basics-tutorial/?completed=/supplies-needed-raspberry-pi-gopigo-robot/

at about the 7:50 mark, he states that he can test the GoPiGo running the motors if he uses a 2 amp power supply ( instead of the typical 1 amp that comes with the Raspberry pi Model B+ ).

Can you confirm that this will work?

Thank you

Even though a 2A power supply might be able to power everything, it is highly recommended to keep a battery pack attached if you are going to try running the motors. The motors pull a lot of current and the voltage on the Pi might become unstable and it might cause the Pi to restarts.

Just want to reiterate, you really do need to use a battery if you’re going to run the motors. YOu risk burning out your Raspberry Pi if you don’t.
