So, this is where it all began. . .

I found an interesting article on the origins of the Raspberry Pi, (the original idea was that it be a robotics controller), and especially the origins of Raspbian.

This pre-dates the Pi-1, by the way. . .

I found the fact that the originators of the Pi, (or at least Raspbian), had originally thought that the Pi was a great idea as a robotics controller was quite telling.

This is what I thought when I first saw it:  “Wow!  This, and an Arduino, would make a KILLER robot!”

The Arduino for the hardware heavy-lifting including the A/D and D/A stuff - which it does quite well thank-you - and the Pi would be the intelligent controller that runs the hardware and you communicate with it at a much higher level.

It should be noted that this is EXACTLY what the GoPiGo became, except instead of using an off-the-shelf Arduino, they created an Arduino-like custom controller designed to nest on top of the Pi and make a compact assembly.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again. . . .

Every time I go look at a robot and/or robot design, I come back to the GoPiGo as the seemingly fittest implementation of a general purpose robot.

What say ye?
