Looks like the board isn’t being recognized at all by the Pi, there’s nothing showing up on the I2C bus.

When you ran the firmware update, did you disconnect the motors before running the firmware? You wrote “updated raspian, dexter sofware and firmware”

not sure if I disconnected or not
reimaged
changed hostname
setup wifi

and viola everything is back to normal
