Given IP addresses not in my LAN range

After too long a time, I’m back at trying to put together a brickPi and a GoPiGo.

I imagined that things had chaged a bit and I’ve burnt a new image (this Week-end).
I can connect the RPIs on the PC and get to access the web interface to set up the wifi. But as soon as I plug them into the network… no go.

The addresses allowed on my network (through DHCP) are of the kind: 192.168.0.10 to 20.
When I ping the RPIs the answer goes like this (ethernet or wifi), with addresses like 169.254.X.X

PING dex.local (169.254.86.39): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0.

What could I do ?
Any help would be apreciated.
Thank you.

Hey chrisxc,

IP adresses that start with 169.x.x.x are usually through the ethernet port. Are you connecting to your Pi with an ethernet cable?

If you’re having trouble finding your Pi on the network, I would highly recommend you take a look at our tutorial for using Fing, a great tool for finding other computers on a local network.

Thank you so much !!!

I found my two devices just fine with Fing.

Great news, glad we could help!
