Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found

I received my new Raspberry Pi & Brick Pi, but have not been able to get onto it.

I bought the pre-formated BrickPi SD card.

I first tried technique 2 connect through an Ethernet cable but VNC could not connect.

Next I tried technique 1 just plugging in a TV, keyboard, & mouse and discovered that during boot the Pi is getting an error:
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found

Searching other Raspberry Pi sites it seems this is associated with incompatible SD cards. Have others had this problem?

Hey BobBoothe, it sounds like your SD card is corrupted. We can send you a replacement pronto, can you contact us through our contact page (http://www.dexterindustries.com/contact.html) with your order details? We’ll send a replacement and arrange for a return.

If you don’t want to wait on a return you can try to reformat the SD Card, you can try to reformat the card and use the directions here (http://www.dexterindustries.com/BrickPi/getting-started/pi-prep/) for installing the image.
