No SPI Response with BrickPi3

I installed the BrickPi3 software on my Raspberry Pi 3 this morning
Connected the BrickPi3
Updated the firmware and got “Verified OK”
Shutdown and rebooted
I am running off the battery pack and using Python
Unfortunately when I run Read_Info.py or other examples I get a “No SPI response” message
I have looked in previous forum replies but don’t no what else to try
